This standard also covers their accessories. The cables must have an extruded solid insulation and may contain longitudinal water-blocking properties such as swellable tapes and powders if the installation conditions demand it.   Many of the cables manufactured in accordance with IEC 60502 are designed for local power distribution, and for power and auxiliary controls. Where additional mechanical protection is provided, the cables are suitable for installation in masonry and concrete. The water-blocking properties are important to prevent water ingress when used in wet conditions. IEC60502-2 cable  It should be noted that IEC 60502-2 excludes cables for special conditions such as those manufactured for use in overhead lines, mining, nuclear power plants, marine and submarine applications. Where this is the case, technical specifications refer to cables being manufactured 'Generally to IEC 60502-2'. This Standard is divided into the following parts: PartsVoltage Rating11kV to 3kV26kV to 30kV3Reserved for future development4Test requirements on accessories for cables with a voltage rating from 6kV to 30kVScope of IEC 60502-1 Part 1 of this international Standard specified the construction, dimensions and test requirements of cables with extruded solid insulation with a rated voltage ranging between 1kV and 3kV for fixed installations such as distribution networks or industrial installations. Some of the cables covered by IEC 60502 have flame spread-reducing or Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) properties when exposed to fire. Various types of armour are specified, such as concentric copper wire screens and/or helically wound copper tape as required in the N2XCH cable.   Code-Designation for Power Cables with PVC or XLPE InsulationDesignIdentification of DesignExplanationsConductorNAccording to VDE Standard(No abbreviation for copper conductor)AAluminum conductorsYInsulation of thermoplastic Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)2XInsulation cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE)Concentric Conductor, ShieldingCConcentric conductors of copper wires and copper tape, helically woundedCWConcentric conductors of copper wires in wave conal formation and and copper tape, helically woundedCEConcentric conductors of copper wires and copper tape over each individual conductor, helically woundedShieldingSShielding of copper wires and copper tape, helically woundedSEShielding of copper wires and copper tape over each individual conductor, helically wounded(F)Longitudinally water-proof shieldingArmorBArmor of steel tapeFArmor of galvanized flat steel wiresGCounter helix of galvanized steel tapeJacketKLead jacketOuter JacketYPVC jacket2YPE jacketCable for U0/U 0.6/1 kV are additionally designated with -JCables with green-yellow (green-natural) conductor are marked with protective conductor-OCables without green-yellow (green-natural) conductor are marked without protective conductor  NMV cable according to DIN VDE 0276AAluminium (Al) conductor[blank]Copper (Cu) conductor2XCross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulationSScreen of copper wires and copper tape, helically woundSEScreen of copper wires and copper tape over each individual core, helically woundYPolyvinyl Chloride (PVC) sheath2YPolyethylene (PE) sheath(F)2YLongitudinal water tightness with PE sheath(FL)2YLongitudinal and transversal water tightness with Al/PE sheath Packaging
